Chris Smith Released From Knicks’ D-League Team

Image

Chris Smith, who made the Knicks’ opening day roster before being cut in January, has now been released by the Knicks’ D-League affiliate in Erie. Smith, who was quite clearly given a roster spot just because he is J.R. Smith’s brother, was on the roster when capable point guards such as Kendall Marshall and D.J. Augustin were free agents, so his short stint with the Knicks has been a sore spot for many. ESPN is reporting that Smith had some run-ins with the coaching staff in Erie, and Adrian Wojnarowski, one of the most reliable sources in the league, recently reported that Smith had left the team several days ago due to dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time. I’m sure more amusing details will be on the way soon, so let’s stay tuned. -Tommy R

A Petition for the Firing of Knicks Coach Mike Woodson

Image

Mike Woodson is a good guy, but as I talked about in an article a couple weeks ago, he is not the right coach for this team. This has been made even more obvious in the past few games. The Knicks are 2-10 in their last 12 contests. Mike Woodson will obviously be fired at season’s end. Which is why the Knicks should just do it now. Click Here to sign a petition asking for Woodson’s removal as Head Coach. Spread it with your fellow Knicks fans if you believe in the cause.

BREAKING: Knicks to Sign Earl Clark

Image

The New York Knicks are finalizing an agreement with Small Forward Earl Clark, sources are reporting.

Clark, the 14th pick in the 2009 NBA draft, has shown that he has potential through his solid performance during limited minutes in his first few seasons. Last year, Clark cracked the Lakers’ starting lineup for part of the season and was quite good. If you look at Clark’s career “Per-36” stats to examine what his numbers would look like if he got a starter’s minutes, he has per-game (36)  averages of 11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal. Clark is a decent defender, and his athleticism and versatility ultimately make him a plus on the defensive end.

Clark is only 26 years old, so, while the Knicks will not have his Bird Rights at the end of the season, it seems like a smart move to give him a look down the stretch and see what he can bring to the table. If this move works out, the Knicks could try to take the steps necessary to lock him up for a few more years at season’s end.

BREAKING: Raymond Felton Arrested on Weapons Charges

Image

A tough season for Raymond Felton just got worse. Felton has struggled all year and the Knicks were actively trying to dump his contract before the trade deadline. Last week, it was reported that Felton’s wife has filed for a divorce. Now, Felton is in serious trouble with the law.

Felton was arrested this morning on on three counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Two of the charges, second and third degree possession of a firearm, are felonies. The other, fourth degree possession, is a misdemeanor. According to a spokesman, the charges do not stem from him using the firearm, just from possessing one. Felton is expected to appear in criminal court today. Let’s see how this plays out…

BREAKING: Knicks Release World Peace, Udrih

Image

The Knicks announced that they have waived Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih. Both players had expressed displeasure with the team recently, and with the trade deadline in the rearview mirror, it makes sense to cut the two players, since, for whatever reason, the Knicks were set on never playing either of them.

The team now has two open roster spots. Chris Smith, anybody? Just kidding. I hope.

Knicks to Buy Out Metta World Peace After Veteran Asks for Release

Image

Knicks’ forward Metta World Peace has asked the team for a buyout that would make him a free agent. World Peace informed fans of his decision in a tweet, saying:

Thank NYC for everything. Thanks for having me I will always be grateful… My agent is working on a buyout. No disrespect to the city Luv U

The team plans to honor his Metta’s request. World Peace had been seeing very little playing time, and the team has not been successful at all, so this is not much of a surprise, although it is a bit disappointing. Oh well…
