Knicks Invite Jeremy Tyler to Training Camp

By Tommy Rothman

The Knicks have finally taken a step to addressing their thin frontcourt. Sources indicated Friday night that the Knicks have given summer league standout Jeremy Tyler an invite to training camp, where he will be afforded a strong opportunity to earn a spot on the NBA roster. Tyler is a freakish athlete who has natural instincts for defense and rebounding. He is incredibly raw on offense, but his athleticism provides hope that he can become a servicable player on that end, as well. The Knicks hope he can emerge as a solid option at center and power forward. Best-case scenario, he becomes a player in the Tyson Chandler mold. Either way, Tyler has value, and let’s hope that the Knicks hit it big on this low-risk, high-reward investment.

Note: Most training camp invites include a non-guaranteed 1 year contract, so if the Knicks decide they want Tyler, they probably have him in their grasp.

Knicks Seem Poised to Sign Euroleague Star Bobby Brown

After taking a successful gamble on a 28 year-old Euroleague player last season, the Knicks appear ready to do the same thing this year. Chris Copeland has taken his dreadlocks and his (under-utilized) talents to Indiana, but Bobby Brown has emerged as a strong candidate to be a Knick. There have been multiple reports that Brown has been working out with the Knicks and that he is a very strong candidate to be signed to a minimum contract before the summer is over. The 28 year-old point guard has been one of the best players in Europe during his time overseas, and would be a low-risk, high-reward option to fill the 3rd point guard spot on the depth chart for New York. Brown is a natural scorer, a good ball-handler, and an explosive athlete. Signing him would be an excellent move by the Knicks.

Knicks Pursuing Chauncey Billups

According to sources, the Knicks could be bringing back an old friend to help run the offense off the bench. The Knicks need a 3rd string point guard and Mike Woodson has been trying to convince former Knick Chancey Billups to return, the Daily News reported Monday Night. Billups would have to take the minimum, which might be a tough sell. More to come, stay tuned. -Tommy

Metta World Peace Headed to the Knicks?

By Tommy Rothman

After reports surfaced Monday that the Lakers will use their amnesty clause on Metta World Peace, the Knicks seem like a strong suitor for the veteran small forward. The Artist Formerly Known as Ron Artest is a Queens native who has stated that he is a Knicks fan. He plays tough defense, hustles, and is a great guy to have on a team… when he can control himself. World Peace has had many on-the-court incidents throughout his career and a few off-the-court troubles as well. If the Knicks can look past that, he would be a solid addition to a team trying to win now. World Peace will be put through amnesty waivers. Every team under the cap will be able to bid on him (starting at the veteran’s minimum). If the rebuilding teams see no use for the 33-year-old small forward, he could fall to the Knicks. A couple good teams still have cap room, but if they decide the eccentric veteran is not worth it, they could pass on him. Furthermore, World Peace has expressed interest in playing at the Garden in the past, and he could ask some teams not to claim him off waivers. If World Peace clears amnesty waivers and becomes an unrestricted free agent, the Knicks would be foolish not to offer him the veteran’s minimum (or possible the $1.7 million left on their midlevel exception). Of course, we can never put it past the Knicks’ front office to do something foolish these days, or to let somebody who has fallen into their laps slip away. World Peace’s future is as much a mystery as the man himself.

Sebastian Telfair is Going to…. the Nets? Or the Knicks? Or Neither?

The Brooklyn-born Point Guard tweeted this.  Does “home” mean Brooklyn, or NY in general? both teams had Telfair on their radar.

UPDATE: one source has said that Telfair was literally tweeting about going home… -Tommy

Flight Cancelled: Knicks to Let Go of James White

Image

White missed this ambitious dunk in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, as well as most of the shots he took during games. He will not be a Knick next season

The Knicks declined James White’s option on Saturday, according to sources. This means that the 30 year old guard will not be back with the team next season. White was signed for his defense and his explosive leaping ability, but struggled to produce and was a major disappointment in the dunk contest. White became a fan favorite in some ways due to his Youtube legacy and his interaction with fans (and haters) online (including yours truly), but did not bring much to the team from a basketball standpoint, which is why he will not be back next season. White will draw interest from a couple teams, but will likely sign with a team in China or Europe, where he can make more money and have a bigger role. -Tommy Rothman
