BREAKING: JR Smith has knee surgery, out 3-4 months

Image

Knicks star 6th man JR Smith has had surgery on his knee and is scheduled to miss 3-4 months, which would put his return somewhere between the middle of training camp and 2 weeks into the regular season. This is disappointing news for Knicks fans, who watched their team battle injuries all of last season. It appears that this injury is related to the knee injury which caused Smith to struggle so badly in the playoffs. The injury is apparently chronic and seems to have built up over time, so a surgery to try to eliminate or mostly solve the problem seems to be the best course of action, and it is one that the Knicks have chosen to take. We should know more in the near future about the severity of this injury. My gut feeling is that it will not be a long-lasting concern, as long as we can get JR back in a timely matter, but you never know with these Knicks. Let’s hope he only misses 6 or 7 games, if any. And let’s hope that when he comes back, he can get his explosiveness back very quickly. I will keep you guys posted when we find out more.

Knicks Sign Metta World Peace… What’s Next?

Image

The Knicks reached an agreement with Metta World Peace (Ron Artest) on Monday. The deal is for 2 years and is worth approximately $1.6 Million per year, meaning that the Knicks have used their entire midlevel exception and now can only offer the veteran’s minimum salary to free agents ($1.4 M). World Peace, an elite defender, gives the Knicks more flexibility with their rotations and provides a level of toughness few in the NBA can match. Signing Metta solves the Knicks’ needs behind Carmelo Anthony at the Small Forward position. Up next? The Knicks must find a third point guard and shore up their depth in the front court. Re-Signing Kenyon Martin could emerge as their main priority in the next couple days. Nate Robinson will get a look at the Point, but is likely to sign elsewhere for more money. Jeremy Tyler, Toure Murry, and Jerome Jordan are candidates to make the team out of Summer League, and Earl Barron might be on his way back (at the minimum salary, of course). What moves do YOU want to see from the team? Let us know in the comments!

BREAKING: Metta World Peace is now an Unrestricted Free Agent, Wants to be a Knick.

Image

Sunday’s 5 PM waiver deadline came and went, Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest) has cleared waivers, making him an unrestricted free agent. ESPN is reporting that Metta is hoping to join the Knicks, and the interest appears to be mutual. Mike Woodson seemed very open to the possibility of bringing World Peace to New York. It looks like Metta is coming home, although nothing is set in stone yet. Stay tuned. -Tommy
