Stoudemire Will Return Saturday.

The New York Knicks expect to get their 100 million dollar man back Saturday, Coach Mike Woodson announced. Amar’e Stoudemire is set to return from his second knee surgery of the season. Woodson said Stoudemire would have his minutes monitored in his first game back.

“It won’t be very many minutes. I’m thinking somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes, if that. We have talked about [managing expectations]…I thought maybe we might have pushed a little too much early on, so we’ve got to be really cautious this time around — just to make sure that we’re doing the right things with him… it’s not that we didn’t think that when he came back the first time, but this time, we really have got to be cautious. He understands; he has no choice.”

Could J.R. Smith, the NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, be spending more time on the bench?

New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson didn’t rule out the possibility of cutting Smith’s minutes in light of Smith’s recent shooting struggles.

“I’ll gauge J.R. as we go along and if I feel he’s not giving me anything, I could always turn to other guys on that bench,” Woodson said Wednesday in an interview on ESPN New York 98.7 FM’s “The Stephen A. Smith & Ryan Ruocco Show.”

“I feel good about the guys that come in off that bench just like I feel good about J.R. But if he’s struggling and I feel the need (that) I’ve got to pull him, then I will do that as the head coach and then other guys have got to come in and step up and play.”

Can the Knicks get Chris Paul? Technically, Yes.

You down with O.P.P.?

Other people’s players?

Yea, you are.

So that is why—despite the Knicks turning in their best season since 1996 and grabbing their first Atlantic Division title since 1994—Knicks fans are quietly reliving their elementary school math classes. Adding two and two together, subtracting a long-term extension and calculating whether (and how) the Knicks can some way end up with Chris Paul.

The short answer is yes, it is possible, though highly improbable.

How improbable?

Paul would likely have to be willing to accept less than the $18.7 million max. salary he could earn under the first year of his new deal. The Knicks would have to give up several players they would probably rather keep, and the Clippers would probably have to agree to a trade that may not suit them.

Maybe all of the above.
