Knicks Rumor Rundown: Nate, Shumpert, Martin, and more

By Tommy Rothman

With teams starting to fill out their rosters, here are the rumors surrounding the Knicks, as well as some news from the past few days

– When asked about Nate Robinson, Glen Grunwald said the Knicks are still exploring options at Point Guard. The Knicks have interest in Robinson. Nate also has interest in a return but the fact that the Knicks can only give him 1.4 million could prevent a deal from getting done.

Knicks considering signing Nate, Brand, Barnes

Sources are reporting that there is mutual interest between the Knicks and free agents Nate Robinson, Elton Brand, and Matt Barnes. While Brand would likely be willing to take the minimum, Barnes could cost more and Nate would almost certainly demand most, if not all, of the Knicks $3.1 Million Midlevel Exception. While Brand seems like a strong candidate to join the roster, Nate still seems like a long shot (and signing him would likely signal the end of Chris Copeland’s days in New York, and maybe Pablo Prigioni’s as well). As for Barnes, he is the wild-card here. He might take the vet’s minimum, but he might get better offers elsewhere, and I am not sure if the Knicks would want to use their midlevel exception on him. More to come, stay tuned. -Tommy

Rumors of Nate Robinson’s split with Chicago are quickly becoming a reality as the Bulls guard posted on instagram yesterday:

“I’m a miss the sh*t outta the chi …gotta thank all the Chicago bulls fans thanks for the best year ever !!! #holdat”

It has long been rumored that Robinson would depart the Bulls in free agency and now the only question seems to be: “where will Nate go next’? The Knicks, according to some reporters, have shown interest in adding another quick, penetrating Point Guard, and Robinson would certainly fit the bill if the salary works out. And, of course, if he can put aside his beef with Steve Novak. Do YOU want to see Nate back in Orange&Blue? Let us know in the comments!
