Metta World Peace Says He Will Leave The NBA… But The Knicks Might Get Him Anyway

By Tommy Rothman

ESPN sources quoted Metta World Peace as saying that he is not considering playing in the NBA next season. The recently amnestied Metta World Peace had said he was considering going to play for Yao Ming in China, or coaching somewhere, or even playing arena football. He talked about how he is too old to stay in the NBA, and he mentioned how his dream of playing with the Knicks has faded away over the years along with his youth. So the Knicks are no longer a possible destination for Metta, right? Wrong.

First of all, Metta World Peace is on waivers right now. Every team under the cap can bid on him until Sunday night, and World Peace does not want to be claimed by a rebuilding team. He could be doing this to scare away teams he does not want to play for. His interest in the Knicks, however, has been reported in recent days. If he clears waivers, he would be free to sign with the Knicks. Metta knows this, and he could just be trying to stop other teams from keeping him out of the Garden.

Second of all, Metta is a jokester, and nothing he says should be taken seriously. Earlier today, he was tweeting about retiring to play hockey… and in the process of doing so, he even dropped subtle hints about playing for the New York Knicks.

Never take anything Metta World Peace says at face value. Stay tuned. The former Ron Artest could still be headed to New York.

Knicks want Metta, who seems to want the Knicks

Star defender, tweeter, and enforcer Metta World Peace could be headed to New York. The Lakers officially amnestied  World Peace on Thursday, meaning that teams under the cap have 48 hours to claim him. If the former Ron Artest is not claimed, he will become an unrestricted free agent. The Knicks are said to have serious interest in the Queens native (according to several sources), and World Peace has interest in returning home to play for the Knicks to finish his career where he wanted to start it. Metta tweeted the photo at the top of this article yesterday.

However, the Cavs and Mavs could bid for World Peace and keep him away from NY. The Clippers and Nets could also have interest if World Peace clears waivers. Stay tuned.

Knicks Pursuing Chauncey Billups

Image

According to sources, the Knicks could be bringing back an old friend to help run the offense off the bench. The Knicks need a 3rd string point guard and Mike Woodson has been trying to convince former Knick Chancey Billups to return, the Daily News reported Monday Night. Billups would have to take the minimum, which might be a tough sell. More to come, stay tuned. -Tommy

Metta World Peace Headed to the Knicks?

By Tommy Rothman

After reports surfaced Monday that the Lakers will use their amnesty clause on Metta World Peace, the Knicks seem like a strong suitor for the veteran small forward. The Artist Formerly Known as Ron Artest is a Queens native who has stated that he is a Knicks fan. He plays tough defense, hustles, and is a great guy to have on a team… when he can control himself. World Peace has had many on-the-court incidents throughout his career and a few off-the-court troubles as well. If the Knicks can look past that, he would be a solid addition to a team trying to win now. World Peace will be put through amnesty waivers. Every team under the cap will be able to bid on him (starting at the veteran’s minimum). If the rebuilding teams see no use for the 33-year-old small forward, he could fall to the Knicks. A couple good teams still have cap room, but if they decide the eccentric veteran is not worth it, they could pass on him. Furthermore, World Peace has expressed interest in playing at the Garden in the past, and he could ask some teams not to claim him off waivers. If World Peace clears amnesty waivers and becomes an unrestricted free agent, the Knicks would be foolish not to offer him the veteran’s minimum (or possible the $1.7 million left on their midlevel exception). Of course, we can never put it past the Knicks’ front office to do something foolish these days, or to let somebody who has fallen into their laps slip away. World Peace’s future is as much a mystery as the man himself.

Sebastian Telfair is Going to…. the Nets? Or the Knicks? Or Neither?

The Brooklyn-born Point Guard tweeted this.  Does “home” mean Brooklyn, or NY in general? both teams had Telfair on their radar.

UPDATE: one source has said that Telfair was literally tweeting about going home… -Tommy

BREAKING: Prigioni to Sign with Knicks

Image

The New York Daily News is reporting that Pablo Prigioni has agreed to sign an extension with the Knicks. Prigioni will be given a 3-year contract, of which the first 2 are guaranteed. It is believed that Pablo will take a bit less than half of the Knicks mid-level exception, leaving them with about $1.7 Million left of their MLE. The Knicks would like to use this money to re-sign Chris Copeland, although the high-scoring forward will likely have offers elsewhere that will be too high to pass up. What we know for sure is that Pablo will be back with the Knicks. Exact terms of the deal should be released shortly. -Tommy
