Derek Fisher is dating Matt Barnes’ wife, so Matt Barnes tried to beat him up

This isn’t The Onion. This actually happened.

NBA forward and notorious headcase Matt Barnes drove 95 miles from Grizzlies training camp to “beat the s**t” out of Knicks Coach Derek Fisher after discovering that Fisher is dating Barnes’ estranged wife, according to multiple reports. Fisher emerged from the fight with “a few scratches.”

Barnes’ wife, Gloria Govan, starred on the show Basketball Wives.

The NBA plans to probe the incident between Barnes and Fisher, who divorced his own wife after 10 years of marriage last spring.

Barnes was Fisher’s teammate for 3 years with the Lakers.

Jeremy Lin, former Knicks star in hilarious video

Linsanity might be over, but Jeremy Lin is still really good at Youtube.

Lin and several friends and former teammates, including former Knicks Tyson Chandler and Landry Fields, teamed up for a hilarious Youtube video in which Lin attempts to fit in with the NBA culture. Watch the video below:

Metta World Peace returns to NBA

mwo

Former Knick and former “Ron Artest” Metta World Peace has returned to the NBA, signing a 1-year deal with the LA Lakers. World Peace played in China after negotiating a buyout with the Knicks during the 2013-14 campaign. World Peace was once known for his tendency to make rash, violent decisions, but has cleaned up his act over the years. Check out The interview I did with Metta in February.

Knicks sign Michigan State star Travis Trice

trice

The Knicks have added depth at the point guard position, reportedly agreeing to a deal with Travis Trice, who played in the Summer League for the Miami Heat after going undrafted in June.

Trice had a terrific senior year for MSU in 2014-15, leading the Spartans with 15 points and 5 assists per game. Trice was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Eastern Region of the NCAA tournament after his strong performance helped MSU emerge from the region to earn a Final Four berth.

Trice, 22, is undersized at 6 feet flat, and does not have tremendous athleticism. He draws on his strong shooting and passing ability to create scoring opportunities on the offensive end of the floor. His strong work ethic and agility helped him survive on defense at the collegiate level, but it is questionable whether he can guard NBA point guards.

Trice’s contract is only partially guaranteed and only constitutes a one-year commitment, so this is a low-risk move for the Knicks. The team now has four 2015 college graduates and NCAA standouts in Jerian Grant (Notre Dame, 19th overall pick), Wesley Saunders (Harvard, undrafted), Darion Atkins (Virginia, undrafted) and Trice, which is consistent with Phil Jackson’s emphasis on Basketball IQ. In addition to the four rookies with four years of experience each, the Knicks have a pair of mystery men in Kristaps Porzingis (#4 overall pick) and Thanasis Antetokounmpo to fill out their rookie class.

JR Smith is getting… Married?!

earl

JR Smith’s days of being distracted by Instagram Supermodels appear to be over.

Smith, who has been fined for posting naked photos of models, been caught (by me) following models during games, allegedly been thrown off his game in the playoffs while lusting after pop star Rihanna, and has gotten into enough trouble off the court that he is having trouble latching on with a team this summer, is apparently looking to settle down. Smith, despite being in the midst of a two-year relationship with another woman, proposed to the mother of his daughter Demi, with the help of Demi.

Here is a video of the proposal, posted, fittingly, on JR Smith’s Instagram.

Is JR a new man? Probably not, but if he signs with a team and makes it through the first month without taking more than two contested fadeaway jumpers per game, we may have to reconsider.

BREAKING: Knicks sign Kevin Seraphin

Detroit Pistons v Washington Wizards

The Knicks have used their “Room” Mid-Level Exception on big man Kevin Seraphin.

Seraphin, 25, was the 17th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and spent the first five years of his career with the Wizards. The 6-foot-9, 264 lb. Seraphin plays center and power forward.

Seraphin made big strides last season, and provides the Knicks with a strong, athletic post player whose excellent hook shot makes him a threat with his back to the basket and possesses a viable mid-range jumper. He has often been referred to as a “black hole” in the post, as his inability to move the ball and play within the flow of the offense has hurt his teams in the past. However, his ball movement was better last season, and if he embraces the unselfish principles of the Triangle Offense, his proficiency on the block should help him thrive without needing to force shots.

On defense, the French big man has become a strong interior defender, with his huge wingspan and strength making up for his relatively short stature.

Seraphin will receive $2.8 Million on his 1-year contract. The Knicks, who signed SG Sasha Vujacic last week, now have 13 guaranteed contracts and a 14th player (Langston Galloway) who will certainly make the team. They have one more roster spot up for grabs in training camp, and can only offer players the minimum salary (which varies depending on the player’s experience).

Seraphin averaged 6.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks on 51% shooting in 15.6 minutes per game last season. He shot 71% from the free throw line.
